Victoria Chenaut holds a PhD in Social Sciences from The Colegio de Michoacán and is Professor and Senior Researcher at CIESAS-Golfo, in Xalapa, Veracruz. She is member of the National Researchers’ System (SNI) and a member of the Mexican Academy of Science. Her areas of interest are Legal Anthropology, Gender and Ethnic Studies and Indigenous Rights. She is active member of RELAJU and has been involved in different academic programs on indigenous peoples access to justice. Her most recent projects focus on Ethnic Identity, State formation and Extractivism in Veracruz. Among her publications: Género y procesos interlegales (2014); Decoding Gender (coeds. with H. Baitenmann and A. Valrey (2007); She occupied the Chair Mexico, at the Center of Social Studies at the University of Coimbra (2013-2014)
